Mechanism of Action
Sildenafil works by inhibiting the PDE5 enzyme, which is responsible for breaking down cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP). By blocking PDE5, sildenafil increases cGMP levels, leading to smooth muscle relaxation and vasodilation in the corpus cavernosum of the penis, which helps achieve and maintain an erection during sexual stimulation.
