FOXO4-DRI works by disrupting the interaction between the FOXO4 protein and p53, a key protein involved in regulating the cell cycle and apoptosis (programmed cell death). In senescent cells, FOXO4 binds to p53 to prevent these damaged cells from dying.
The DRI peptide (D-Retro-Inverso) mimics a portion of the FOXO4 protein and acts as a decoy, freeing p53 and allowing it to trigger apoptosis in the senescent cell. This selective removal helps clear out aged or dysfunctional cells without harming healthy ones.
